We can begin to imagine who some of these players might have been with AI's help. MajorMinorLeagues.com creates an imagined history of minor league baseball players of the 1970's and 80's, creating imaginary players who played for imaginary teams. Prompts are sent to OpenAI's Dall-E image generator, which returns one-of-a-kind images of imagined players; a database of nearly 20,000 real names of Major League Baseball players is used to generate new combinations of first and last names, and a list of real American small towns and AI-generated team names completes the imagined, forgotten history of an unlimited number of baseball players.
